Command Senior Chief, USNS Comfort

Senior Chief Joshua Cannon is a native of Ayden, North Carolina and enlisted in the Navy in August 2006. Following completion of Recruit Training Command Great Lakes, he attended Aviation Support Equipment Technician "A" school at Naval Aviation Training Command Pensacola, Florida, followed by his first shore tour at Fleet Readiness Center South East detachment Jacksonville, FL.
Following Shore Duty, he received orders to USS
Kearsarge (LHD 3) Norfolk, Virginia, in 2009 where he deployed to 5th Fleet AOR in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom and Operation New Dawn and was advanced to Second Class Petty Officer.
In 2013, he was selected to serve as a Recruit Division Commander at Recruit Training Command Great Lakes, Illinois where he trained 10 Recruit Divisions, advanced to First Class Petty Officer, earned a Distinguished Leadership Award, and earned his Master Training Specialist qualification. He then transferred to USS
George H.W. Bush (CVN 77) in January 2017 where he was selected to Chief Petty Officer and served as IM-4’s Division Leading Chief Petty Officer. He deployed to 5th and 6th Fleet region in support of Operation Inherent Resolve.
In 2022, he arrived onboard Fleet Readiness Center West, Lemoore, CA as Support Equipment Division Leading Chief Petty Officer and advanced to Senior Chief Petty Officer. In 2024, he was selected for the Command Senior Chief Program and currently assigned to the USNS
Comfort (T-AH 20) in Norfolk Virginia. Senior Chief Cannon is a graduate of the U.S. Navy Senior Enlisted Academy (Class 251/Grey) and holds a General Studies Associate’s degree from Columbia College of Missouri.
His personal awards include the Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal (three awards), Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal (three awards) and various unit and campaign awards.
