Strategic Sealift Officer Force (SSOF)
The SSOF is MSC's manpower solution that provides assured operation and sustainment of Surge Sealift.

The SSOF are Navy Reserve Officers in the Strategic Sealift Readiness Group (SSRG) of the Individual Ready Reserve and Selected Reserve (SELRES) officers attached to deployable units.

The Strategic Sealift Officer Force (SSOF) shall provide warfare qualified Navy Reserve Officers with civilian Merchant Mariner credentials and military training to support the activation, operation, and sustainment of the United States organic Sealift fleet, in contested environments, and in support of Maritime Domain Operations and the Maritime Industrial Base throughout the continuum of conflict.

MSC is the Operational Commander of the SSRG and builds warfighter readiness and capacity to shape a ready and relevant force that can fight on Day One.

SSOF Vision:
A properly manned Strategic Sealift Officer Force, united in purpose that is fully ready to succeed as a warfighter on “Day One” of mobilization, possesses the most relevant training, skills and certifications for mission success, and is flexibly postured to support the Navy and Combatant Commanders.
