CAPTain David L. Reyes
MSC FAR EAST COMMANDER
Captain Reyes is a native of Defiance, Ohio. He enlisted in the Navy in 1993 under the Seaman Apprenticeship Program. While serving aboard his first ship, USS
Enterprise (CVN 65), he became a rated Quartermaster. He is a 1996 graduate of the Broadened Opportunity for Officer Selection and Training (BOOST) Program, and was commissioned through the Naval Reserve Officer Training Corps (NROTC) at University of Colorado at Boulder earning a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Political Science in August 2000. He later earned a Master’s of Science Degree in Systems Technology focused in Joint C4I, and completed the Naval War College non-resident course for Joint Professional Military Education (JPME) 1 from the Naval Postgraduate School in 2007.
A career Surface Warfare Officer, Captain Reyes’ initial sea duty assignments were in Yokosuka, Japan serving in USS
Vandegrift (FFG 48) as Electrical Officer and Combat Information Center Officer, and USS
John S. McCain (DDG 56) as Damage Control Assistant. His Department Head tours were served in USS
Curtis Wilbur (DDG 54) and USS
Shiloh (CG 67) as Chief Engineer. He then went on to serve on the Staff of Commander Carrier Strike Group FIVE/ Commander Task Force 70 embarked in USS
George Washington (CVN 73) as the Deputy Material, Logistics, and Readiness Officer (N4A). Captain Reyes served as Executive Officer in USS
Antietam (CG 54) and USS
Chosin (CG 65). His Command tour was in USS
Halsey (DDG 97), in which he successfully completed a deployment to the 5th and 7th Fleet Areas of Responsibility. Captain Reyes served as the N3/Operations Officer on the Staff of Commander, Carrier Strike Group EIGHT in USS
Harry S. Truman (CVN 75). On his last assignment, he served on the Staff of COMUSNAVCENT/C5F as N3 Director of Operations.
Ashore, he served as Deputy Chief of Staff in Naval Surface Group Middle Pacific, and as Deputy Branch Head for Strategic Military Sealift Operations in OPNAV N42.
Captain Reyes’ personal decorations include, the Meritorious Service Medal, Navy/Marine Corps Commendation Medal, Navy/ Marine Corps Achievement Medal, Navy Good Conduct Medal and various other unit and campaign awards.
