200307-M-OP674-0280 NORFOLK (March 7, 2020) Retired U.S. Marine Corps Chief Warrant Officer 4 Hershel "Woody" Williams delivers remarks during the Lewis B. Puller-class expeditionary mobile base USS Hershel "Woody" Williams (ESB 4) commissioning ceremony. The ship was named after Williams, a then corporal whose acts of heroism in the Battle of Iwo Jima during World War II earned him the highest decoration for valor, the Medal of Honor. Marine Corps Forces South continues to assess different amphibious and non-traditional naval platforms to enable Marine deployments in the western hemisphere, increasing naval readiness and ability to integrate with our partners. The ESB, a mobile sea base, supports the deployment of forces and supplies from ship to shore. (U.S. Marine Corps photo by Cpl. Amy Phan/Released)
