SANTA RITA, Guam (Sept. 9, 2021) Seabees assigned to Naval Mobile Construction Battalion (NMCB) 1, Detachment Guam, used a forklift to load a Lightweight Water Purification Systems (LWPS) shipping container onto the Spearhead-class expeditionary fast transport USNS City of Bismarck (T-EPF-9) for transport to the Republic of Palau. The LWPS is intended to validate Seabee potable water production capabilities to support fleet operations. NMCB 1 is forward-deployed to execute construction, humanitarian assistance, theater security cooperation, and support Fleet maneuver in the U.S. 7th Fleet areas of operation.
