WE ARE MSC --
We Are MSC - 2nd Engineer Kevyn Delacoudray
Bronx, New York native Kevyn Delcoudray, the 2nd Assistant Engineer/Cargo Engineer aboard MSC expeditionary sea base USS Hershel “Woody” Williams (ESB 4).
What is your current hometown?
Bronx, New York
What is your current assignment?
USS Hershel “Woody” Williams (ESB 4)
How long have you worked with MSC?
Delcoudray: I have worked with MSC for 3 years and 6 months.
What is your job aboard USS Hershel “Woody” Williams?
Delcoudray: I am a 2nd Assistant Engineer/ Cargo Engineer. My job entails taking care of maintenance, repairs, and inspections for all deck machinery and vital equipment outside the engine room. This includes cranes, mooring winches, UNREP stations, Bow Thruster, and EDG.
What do you enjoy most about working with MSC?
Delcoudray: The thing I enjoy most about being a part of MSC (besides traveling the world) is meeting new people on every ship. Every ship has its own dynamic and I enjoy finding my role to help others and also gain more experience for myself. In the 3 years I've been with MSC, I look back at where I started and I'm proud of how much I've grown and the effort I've put in and that is thanks to those shipmates that encouraged me to be a better engineer and taught me along the way.
What has been your most favorite memory while working at MSC?
Delcoudray: My most memorable moment so far has been my first fueling operation during an UNREP as a Cargo Engineer. I was always in the engine room during UNREPs as a 3rd Assistant Engineer so being able to watch the entire UNREP process and being a part of it was a big step for me.
As a Civil Service Mariner how do you support the MSC mission?
Delcoudray: As a Cargo Engineer, I support the MSC mission by taking responsibility for the UNREP equipment, which helps the Navy get the supplies, ammo, and fuel they need to complete their deployments. Even of other ships that do not require as much UNREP equipment like ESBs, I take care of the auxiliary systems for the Navy such as their MSD system, Potable Water, and HVAC systems.
