Ship in the Spotlight
This week’s Military Sealift Command “Ship in the Spotlight,” is USS Lewis B. Puller (ESB 3). The expeditionary sea base recently completed a scheduled port visit to Cape Town, South Africa in support of maritime security. During the stop, the ship was able to resupply food and fuel. The visit was a demonstration of the common interest shared between the U.S. and African partner nations in ensuring security, safety and freedom of navigation in the waters surrounding the continent. The ship is comprised of a blended crew of Civil Service Mariners and U.S. Navy Sailors and is capable of executing missions including counter-piracy and humanitarian and disaster relief and works with a variety of rotary wing aircraft.
