Ship in the Spotlight
Congratulations to this week’s Military Sealift Command “Ship in the Spotlight,” USNS Salvor (T-ARS 52). The safeguard-class rescue and salvage ship assisted the U.S. Coast Guard, Port of Guam, and Commander, Task Group 73.6/Mobile Diving and Salvage Unit 1 in a dive and salvage mission in Guam, Oct. 6, 2025. The crew of the Salvor towed the M/V Voyager, which was grounded adjacent to Piti Channel during Typhoon Mawar in May 2023, approximately 22 nautical miles offshore to a pre-designated EPA-approved site in waters exceeding 2,800 feet in depth, and subsequently was sunk. They conducted the towing and sinking evolutions under a temporary safety zone enforced by the U.S. Coast Guard to protect responders and mariners, marking the safe and final resolution of this long-standing issue.
