Commander Travis B. Powell

MSC FAR EAST Chief Staff Officer

CDR Travis B. Powell is a native of Conroe, Texas and is a 2005 graduate of Tulane University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Science.  He received his commission through the Navy ROTC program in May 2005.  He completed Joint Professional Military Education (JPME) Phase I in August 2018.

Sea tours include Main Propulsion Division Officer and Strike Officer aboard USS Chafee (DDG 90) and Damage Control Assistant aboard USS Chung‐Hoon (DDG 93).   He completed two deployments to the Arabian Gulf supporting Operation Iraqi Freedom and Operation Enduring Freedom, with a third deployment to Seventh Fleet.  CDR Powell again deployed to the Seventh Fleet while serving as Chief Engineer on USS Pinckney (DDG 91).  Upon completion of his tour, he transferred to Singapore as the COMDESRON SEVEN Maintenance and Materiel Officer.  He also completed a XO Special Mission tour as Damage Control Assistant onboard USS RONALD REAGAN where he deployed to Fifth Fleet.   

Ashore, CDR Powell served as Regional Operations Officer on the staff of Commander Task Force 63 where he deployed to East Africa and the Indian Ocean for Africa Partnership Station.  He served as Fires Officer at Commander Fifth Fleet where he led the planning and execution of Joint and Coalition TLAM strikes into Syria and Yemen.  His most recent assignment was serving as the Commander Logistics Group Western Pacific Executive Assistant.

CDR Powell’s personal awards include the Bronze Star, Meritorious Service Medal, Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal (five awards), Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal (three awards), and other personal, service, unit, and campaign awards.
